Welcome

I am so excited to be teaching elementary PE this year here at Mountainvillle.  I love working with children and helping them to become active and healthy. I must get that from my father who taught elementary students in grades 3-6 for 35 years. I feel as if grew up in his classroom, and learned so much watching him manage his lessons, his classroom, and positively interact with his students year after year.

I love playing games! Growing up I played 25 seasons of team sports between 7th grade through college level.  My specialty was volleyball, but I also enjoyed basketball and softball. I graduated from Principia College in Illinois, but am a west coast girl at heart having been born and raised in Ojai, CA.  I have taught PE at a private school in Los Angeles before I was married, and then took 10 years off to stay at home with my children when they were young.  Most recently I was a third grade teacher at Challenger School here in Lehi.  I have a wonderful husband and three amazing kids; two boys and a girl.  We love living here in Utah County and I especially enjoy being in the mountains, rafting down the Provo River, and biking around with my family.  I also have a passion for gardening and can usually be found tending my vegetables in the early morning hours during the summertime. I look forward to a wonderful year!

I was born and raised in a small town in northeastern Kansas, the third of six children.  My father was a family practice doctor in our town and my parents held the highest regard for education and educators.  My family’s respect for education was influential in my choosing teaching as a goal.

I graduated from BYU with a degree in elementary education and taught third grade for two years in Tooele, Utah.  I then chose to stay home to raise my family which grew to include six children.  I returned to teaching when my two youngest children and I all came to Mountainville Academy the first year it opened; I as a first grade teacher and they as students.  I taught the following year in third grade.

I have been married to my wonderful, supportive husband for almost thirty years.  We have moved around the county quite a bit for his employment - and life has been an adventure!  We spent the past three years in beautiful, historic York, Pennsylvania and returned to Utah this summer.
Some of my favorite things to do are spending time with my family (including my three adorable grandchildren), visiting places throughout this beautiful country, reading, and cooking.

I feel privileged and am thrilled to be back teaching at Mountainville Academy!

Welcome to Mountainville Academy, a state-approved charter school located in Alpine, Northern Utah County, Utah.  Mountainville Academy opened its doors in the fall of 2006 and provides a tuition-free choice in public education for children in grades K through 8 from all surrounding communities.

The goal of Mountainville Academy is to impact the lives of the children we serve and facilitate their success in later pursuits. Mountainville Academy strives for this goal through an educational environment rooted in the following principles:

  • A Strong Academic Focus: The first step of success is the provision of an education with solid foundations in basic skills with which to build upon. Mountainville Academy students will master skills and concepts through research-based and time-proven curricula with concentration on building high proficiency in Language Arts and Math.
  • A Well-Rounded Education: Instruction extends beyond core academics to include foreign language, music, art, and a broad range of topics. The curriculum integrates academic subjects and the study of other cultures, historical events, science, fine arts, and how these subjects relate to one another. Each subject is structured and sequenced to build upon each consecutive year.
  • Character Development: The academic program is balanced with the provision of character strengthening programs to encourage good conduct, respect, self-discipline, values, service, increased productivity, and personal/interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Leveled Learning: The varied academic levels of each student are addressed through instruction in small, flexible groups so that less advanced students receive the help they need and more advanced students stay challenged.
  • Small Class Environment: Class sizes average 25 students and are taught by licensed teachers. Classes in the lower grades are assisted by instructional aides, bringing the student-teacher ratio to about 13.
  • Parent Involvement: The quality of education and the success of both the school and the students who attend are fortified by an active parent presence to support students and teachers. Mountainville Academy parents are encouraged to participate through a variety of opportunities that will benefit the school and accommodate their individual circumstances.
  • A Positive Environment: As students realize accomplishment in the mastery of skills and concepts, their confidence and self-worth grows as well as their desire to pursue more knowledge and understanding. This love of learning is essential to academic and personal growth and is enhanced by caring and kind teachers who display enthusiasm for teaching, appreciation of the individual child, and dedication to the success and well-being of their students.
