Mountainville Academy is pleased to offer our policy manual online for convenient access by all interested parties.  In order to view the document, you will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader software. You can download it here free.  For more information on pdf files, click here.

Navigating the Manual

The policies and procedures of Mountainville Academy are divided into four major sections, providing the first digit of a four-digit number used to reference each policy. Thus, the number 1000 refers to the heading of a group of policies that fall into a particular category or series.  The four major divisions are as follows:

1000 INTERNAL OPERATIONS
2000 INSTRUCTION
3000 STUDENTS AND PARENTS
4000 PERSONNEL

The second digit of the reference number refers to a subgroup within the series. Within the 1000 series, for example, subgroups would be assigned numbers of 1100, 1200, 1300, and so on.  The third and fourth digits refer to smaller and smaller sections within these subgroups.

There are 2 ways to find a policy in the manual:

Browse the Table of Contents: If you know the specific policy title, consider the policy you are looking for and where it may be filed among the major categories.  All policies within each series are listed in the Table of Contents.  Once you have determined which policy you want to see, click on the desired policy title and you will be taken to it in the manual.

Use the Search Function: If you have a topic you want to find a policy about, open the manual and click on "Search" or "Find" in the top menu bar.  Type in a key word and you will be taken to the results.

Administrative Rules

As a rule, the role of the Board of Trustees is to establish policies, while the role of the Administration is to implement those policies through administrative rules. Policies are principles adopted by the board to chart a course of action. Administrative Rules are detailed directions developed by the administration to put policy into practice. A policy may provide sufficient direction by itself, and, as a consequence, it may not be accompanied by an administrative rule. Administrative rules, however, do not exist in the absence of policies. Therefore, every administrative rule is written to implement a policy adopted by the Board.

Manual Updates

This manual is updated as policies and procedures are adopted, amended, repealed or otherwise revised.  Policies of Mountainville Academy are created by action of the board and become effective upon adoption, unless otherwise specified.  It should be noted that although Mountainville Academy strives to provide reliable and up-to-date content for policies on the website, delays may occur before newly adopted policies or amendments appear online.  Therefore, at any time it is possible that the manual may be incomplete to the extent that recently adopted policies may not have yet been added in policy manual form.  The school makes no warranty that the information contained herein is complete or error-free.

Inquiries regarding policies and procedures should be directed to the school office.
