3rd Grade Teacher

From the time I was little, I wanted to be a teacher! As a young student, it always seemed like a magical occupation to me, and I would dream of following in the footsteps of my mother, and my favorite 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Pettigrew. So when it came time to declare my major, I followed my dream and graduated with my degree in Elementary Education from Weber State University in 1996.

Upon graduation, my husband and I moved to Denver, Colorado, where I worked as a kindergarten enrichment teacher. When our first son was born in 1998, I took a hiatus from teaching, and focused on raising our four amazing (I may be a bit biased) children. In 1999, we moved to the Pacific NW, and lived in Seattle for 13 years. Throughout our time in Seattle, I remained an active volunteer in my children's classrooms, typically volunteering in each of their classes every week, and even taught a Life Skills class for middle schoolers.

Once all four of our kids were in school full time, I returned to working in the classroom again. This is my eleventh year at Mountainville Academy, and my eighth year teaching 3rd grade :). It is my goal for each student I work with to feel empowered in their learning, strengthened in their abilities to be successful, and to build consistent growth and positive attitudes towards their education and the subjects therein. Teaching is even more than I hoped it could be, and I absolutely love working with our Mountainville Academy students. I feel blessed to work at a platinum STEM designated school, whose mission includes promoting a love of learning and living the 7 Habits! I strive to live the 7 Habits, and am grateful I get to include these in our daily instruction.
